should i bring my camera???

I just went on a family vacation to Houston. I knew it would be hot as Hades, and with two young, highly active boys, my hands were already going to be full. I was going back and forth about whether or not I should bring my camera or not. I just finished a busy season and was looking forward to a break away from my beloved camera!

I’ve always said that my biggest competition is the iPhone in the photography industry. And while I still believe that is true, I dont think it is as big of a threat as I did before this trip. I have a nice iPhone 13 Pro. I set my camera to shoot in RAW on the iPhone to squeeze every drop of detail in Lightroom for that special shot I happen to get. However, that iPhone would not allow me to get the picture I had imagined.

Let me back up to explain this a little more. I am a very visual person. I can envision the shot that I want to get in my head. That is most likely because I know exactly what a scene would look like in specific focal lengths and apertures. The iPhone simply CAN NOT replicate a beautiful lens on a full-framed camera!

Believe me; I wish it did. But, even with my tiny Sony A7iii, after carrying it around all day, I’m relieved to sit it down! The realization came from standing at the foot of the Saturn V at the Johnson Space Center. I saw the amazing shots in my head I could have gotten with my camera.

Standing amidst this remarkable rocket that has made multiple journeys to space, I regretted not bringing my camera. That moment changed me. It made me realize why I get my camera through thick and thin, no matter how difficult it is.

It was standing in the midst of this incredible rocket that has made multiple journeys to space that I truly regretted not bringing my camera. That moment changed me. It made me realize why I bring my camera through thick and thin no matter how difficult it is.

JUST GET THE SHOT!

I did that with my iPhone, and I’m so glad I was able to capture the experience. Getting the shot in whatever way possible is always better than not getting the picture!

I’m thankful my passion for capturing the marvelous in the mundane has been reignited!

Stay Shooting!
