A Quick Branding Session for a Baton Rouge Musician
When Sam reached out about creating updated branding and marketing photos, he needed something simple, efficient, and versatile. We planned a quick portrait session at his home church, a location that naturally reflected both his personality and his work.
Sam leads worship for a local congregation and also plays piano at Baton Rouge Steakhouse. Because music is such an important part of his life, photographing him inside the sanctuary felt like the perfect fit.
As soon as I entered the church, I was reminded of the reverence, craftsmanship, and care that go into worshiping God through music. The sanctuary’s massive organ, beautiful architecture, and natural light created an incredible environment for the session.
Creating Professional Images in a Meaningful Location
Church sanctuaries can be visually beautiful, but they can also present unique lighting challenges. For this session, I used off-camera strobe lighting and carefully blended it with the existing ambient light.
The goal was to create polished, professional portraits while preserving the natural atmosphere of the church. Sessions like this are some of my favorites because they challenge me to think creatively and use the environment in a way that feels authentic to the person being photographed.
After a few minutes of setup, Sam and I selected several locations throughout the sanctuary and got to work. Even though the session was brief, we created a strong variety of images that he can use across multiple platforms.
